3 SCI Somerset inmates stabbed over past week, facility on lockdown

SOMERSET - The State Correctional Institution at Somerset is on lockdown following several fights among inmates druing the past week.

According to SCI-Somerset officials, the facility was placed on lockdown Sunday afternoon after inmates were involved in a series of fights and in some instances "improvised" weapons were used.

Officials said three inmates were stabbed, but their injuries were treated at the facility.

No staff members were injured nor assaulted in any of the instances.

Officials said an extensive search of the facility will be conducted.

Visits and other normal operations are suspended as part of protocol of the search and the institution is expected to resume regular operations by the weekend.
