Blacklick Township fire

A fire that ripped through a Blacklick Township home along Station Road Sunday night has been ruled arson, according to Nanty Glo Deputy Fire Chief Rich Brown.

The house was a total loss, displacing the family of one of the fire department's own.

Brown says the fire started on the first floor in the living room, with flames engulfing the first floor of the home and spreading to the second floor.

Brown says the mother, father and young daughter who live there weren't home at the time and no one was injured.

But the family's two cats died in the fire.

Brown says it took firefighters about a half-hour to put out the flames, with the help of several fire companies, but it was a difficult job.

“It was a difficult time because of the heat and the humidity that evening, and with that, and with our gear in the fire, we had to rotate guys in and out,” says Brown. “And I actually called an additional company in for the manpower because of the heat and humidity.”

We contacted the state fire marshal to see if any charges have been filed yet in this arson, but haven't heard back yet.
