Cameron County winery celebrates grand opening

A winery is celebrating its grand opening this weekend in Emporium, Cameron County.

The Rich Valley Winery is on Route 120 downtown. The owners say they started beekeeping nearly 10 years ago but wanted to get into the wine business, too.

They say they wanted to distance themselves from big wineries by offering products people want.

"Pennsylvania Wine Land wants to become that new Finger Lakes,” said Ryan Magaro. “We all know the Finger Lakes in New York. Pennsylvania has the opportunity to do the same.

“Thing is, it's really a labor of love. The scale we're doing it, it's harder to be profitable. The bigger wineries may make hundreds of thousands of gallons a year. We're going to make thousands maximum."

The grand opening is Friday at 4 p.m. There will be live entertainment there.
