Log House Arts Festival showcases local artists, gives back to community

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa.(WJAC) —

The 49th annual Log House Arts Festival is the largest annual fundraiser for the Community Arts Center of Cambria County. Over 100 vendors attend the festival to show off their finished artwork.

"Well, the Community Arts Center is really focused on giving things back to the community, and the fact that we really hold onto our name, community, and offer free events throughout the year can be funded by fundraisers by this. The Log House Arts Festival is our largest fundraiser of the year. All help the arts center with the operations to keep it going and keeping the arts alive in Cambria County,” said Executive Director of Community Arts Center of Cambria County Angela R. Godin.

The festival is made up of over 100 vendors.

One vendor, Jessica Spiker, recently just discovered her love for chainsaw art after wanting to make a sculpture she found online.

“If you have that, like, gut feeling that you are capable of doing something, try it because it has brought me so much joy. Four years ago, I had no idea I could carve anything, nor would I have ever considered picking up a chainsaw because I would have been too scared,” said Spiker.

Spiker says art has been a sort of therapy for her. She says quitting her daytime job and working on her chainsaw sculptures has been a form of stress relief.

“Art is a therapy. I think if you have anything you are trying to find a stress relief, come to the arts center and get involved in art and explore what the options are, and also go for it and give it a try,” said Spiker.

Spiker is happy she is able to give back to the community through her art

and maybe even inspire others to get involved in the arts.

“I mean, it makes me feel joyful that I can be a part of something that is helping others discover art, and to be a part of helping support those programs that help someone discover art in their life, I think is awesome,” said Spiker.
