Portage Area School District hosts WoodMobile

The Pennsylvania WoodMobile was at the Portage Area School District on Thursday to educate kids from 3rd to 6th grades about our forest and the various things that sustain it but also the different factors that hurt it such as invasive species and improper forest management.

The WoodMobile is a 34-foot trailer that provides an educational space for kids to have an interactive experience. The program stresses the significance of forests in Pennsylvania.

“The importance of our forest products industry is primarily jobs," said Darrel Showers, a WoodMobile Coordinator. "It’s what saves our state from being in debt. That’s where the state makes the most of its money, through agriculture, that’s why it’s important. We need to make it sustainable which we are doing very good on that, we also need to recruit people to into this profession.”

In order to schedule the WoodMobile at your school or organization you can visit the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's website.
