Somerset DA seeking special coordinator to help oversee child abuse cases
Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — An increase in child abuse cases has acting Somerset County District Attorney Molly Metzgar looking to bring in someone to help oversee the sensitive content.
She's asking the county salary board to hire a "child justice coordinator" to help track, advise and work with police on investigations involving abuse.
Metzgar says on top of the two dozen active abuse cases her office is working on, there are an additional 20 new cases that have recently been filed, and they're using an all-hands on deck approach.
Metzgar says her office has saved more than $210,000 this year due to open positions in the office.
She says those savings would be enough to cover the coordinator's $36,000 salary, plus benefits, for two years.
